In 2003 I was diagnosed with Dysplastic Kidneys, this meant that my kidneys hadn’t grown since I was a little boy and meant I had to have a transplant. The beginning of the rest of my life.

Mum and Dad were tested the next day to see if they could donate a kidney to me, mum turned out to be a perfect match. We both went through a lot together, back and for into hospital, having blood tests done and getting set for the big day.

That day came a year later. On the 5 of July 2004 at 2pm a woman came into my room and said "I have a present from your mum in the back of my car" this meant one thing, it was time for the biggest operation of my life. It was really scary and all I can remember is me not letting them put the anaesthetic in through my cannula, but much to my kicking and screaming they got it through it. 2 hours later I woke up back in my room and the operation was a massive success.

One week and five days later I was out the hospital and now on my way to becoming a normal boy once again.

Now I feel like a normal boy of 15 with amazing friends and a family that I love dearly. I still get tested by the hospital every ten weeks but fingers crossed everything is fine.

I can’t thank my mum for what she did for me enough and I’m so proud of her for giving me a second chance. Without her I wouldn’t be here.
