The 2010 HSBC Cardiff 10k was launched at the new John Lewis Store, Cardiff at 11:00am on the 15th June 2010.
Speaking at the launch British Lion and Wales all-time leading try scorer Shane Williams said: “The HSBC Cardiff 10k is well known throughout Wales and it is good to see the event reaching 25 years – which is a terrific milestone. I am just pleased to be able to support the launch today and encourage anyone thinking of running the 10K to set themselves a real challenge and get fit this summer!
“The Kidney Wales Foundation provides immense support to children, patients and their families all around Wales, so let’s hope it’s another great year of fundraising for the charity.”
Andrea Benfield the ITV News anchor and journalist shared the view and said “I ran the 10k last year and it really is an event to suit everyone. The 2K Run is great for families, so people of all ages take part. The 10K is a perfect distance for any running ability and you don’t have to break world records – you’ll be a champion just for pulling on your trainers and giving it a go.”
The HSBC Cardiff 10K and 2K Run is extra special this year as it celebrates running for the 25th year. The event has cemented its place as one of the country’s biggest and longest standing 10K races.
A record-breaking number of runners are expected to take part along an exciting new city centre course, either raising money for charity or just for fun.
Over the years the HSBC Cardiff 10K has raised millions of pounds for charities and attracted a world-class line-up of stars – Kenya’s World Championship medal winner Ernest Kimeli who holds the race record of 28min 32secs.
Roy J Thomas, Chairman of the Cardiff 10k, said: “The HSBC Cardiff 10K and 2K Run has been a great success over the years. Funds from last years race are currently helping us to refurbish the Childrens Kidney Centre at the University Hospital Wales. With more and more people wanting to run this year we welcome Diabetes UK, our partners in Donate Wales and Sian Cothi’s charity in the name of her late husband Justin- Amser Justin Time.“
The money raise by Kidney Wales supporters goes directly towards supporting families. At the launch will be Cardiff residents, Chris Allen and his son, Mark. Chris donated a kidney to his Mark in January 2010 and will be running this years Cardiff 10k to raise funds for Kidney Wales.
