Haverfordwest Kidney Wales Committee enjoyed a busy weekend recently. They held their very successful Winter Concert at the Picton Centre on Saturday night featuring The Llangwm Village Voices, The Pembrokeshire Cantabile Choir, with soloists Lou Hales and Corey Bullock, and musicians Izzy Jones and Angharad Howells. The event was organised by Committee secretary, Emma Bourton, and the festive hamper was won by Gwenda & Bryan Mason of Princess Gate.

This was followed on Sunday morning by a reunion of past and present committee members who undertook a tour of the recently opened Dialysis Unit at Withybush Hospital. All who attended were very impressed with the facilities, and were delighted that their dream, which they had campaigned and lobbeyed for, for thirty years had finally been realised. During the visit Trina Herbert presented a cheque to unit manager, Mary Robson and Committee chairman, Chris Mackeen (Tree’s Mum) for £5,360.00, which she had raised earlier this year on her 870 mile Welsh Coast Path walk from Chester to Chepstow. The other £5,000 raised by Tree was handed over to Kidney Wales Foundation earlier this year.

This money will further enable the Haverfordwest Committee to continue to support the needs and comfort of the patients, such as stress relieving cushions, personal headphones and DVD players, televisions, and many other items to make their time while receiving life saving treatment a little easier. The weekend was rounded off with several of the committee members, and unit staff, joining the patients and their partners for a Christmas lunch at the Glen, which is provided from the committee’s funds each year. The free raffle is always a huge success.
