Kidney Wales secure WCVA administered Volunteering Wales Grant

Kidney Wales are thrilled to have been awarded £16,424.88 from the Volunteering Wales Grant, administered by WCVA, enabling us to develop our volunteer opportunities and better engage with our kidney community.

Throughout the pandemic we were honoured by the numerous offers of support received. We had lots of our community reaching out for ways to get involved in a volunteering capacity. This funding will allow us to enhance the opportunities available through the introduction of a Volunteer Ambassador Programme open to anyone with lived experience of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).

The funding of this programme will recruit, train and build the confidence of 30 people affected by CKD, to organise and deliver presentations in their local area to charities, businesses, schools and at Kidney Wales events, to educate and raise awareness of CKD by sharing their personal journey.

This programme is in line with Kidney Wales’ charitable mission to deliver education and awareness raising activity.  It will become part of an initiative offered to patients, to provide an awareness raising sessions. They will be for employers, schools or community groups to help build understanding and raise awareness of the realities and burdens of the living with a kidney related illness, and how it affects the lives of patients and families.

Ross Evans, Managing Director at Kidney Wales speaks of the project

“Following a very difficult 18 months for so many, and whilst there is still so much uncertainty we are delighted to have this opportunity from the Volunteering Wales Grant to provide focus and a purpose for so many wanting to help raise awareness of Chronic Kidney Disease out in the community using virtual platforms”.

The charity often receives requests to speak at local schools, community groups and businesses, but unfortunately with a small team and geographical limitations we simply are not able to fulfil all requirements.  This programme will widen our reach across Wales, hugely impacting how we achieve a better understanding of CKD, and the importance of Kidney health throughout our Welsh population”.
