Late in 2021 we learned that there would be new treatments available to those most vulnerable to COVID-19 as an addition to vaccinations. The vaccinations remain the best way to protect ourselves against this virus, however, with the news of the Neutralising Monoclonal Antibody treatments (nMAb) it is understandable that questions arise around it.

The new antiviral and antibody treatments for Covid-19 are available for people aged 12 and over who have a positive PCR test for the virus and are at highest risk of getting seriously ill. A doctor or specialist will confirm if you are eligible for treatment. The eligible groups of kidney patients entitled to be considered for the new treatments include:

• Those who have received B cell depleting-therapies or equivalent immunosuppression (eg rituximab)

• Had an organ transplant or equivalent immunosuppression (eg immune-mediated kidney disease)

• All CKD 4 and 5 patients, including those on dialysis
