Forage Farm Shop and Kitchen are pairing with charity music event Lamb Jam for a debut festival in aid of Kidney Wales and Neuroendocrine Cancer UK.
On Saturday 25th June 2022 in honour of Dewi, Forage Farm will be joining Lamb Jam to host a festival in aid of Kidney Wales and Neuroendocrine Cancer UK. It promises to be a brilliant event with an excellent line-up that includes a variety of music from 60s sounds to present day.
Dewi said about his transplant journey “I’ve always known that I’ve had one kidney that didn’t develop properly and so have lived with just one which worked at about 80% efficiency. In late 2016, I had been feeling unwell for some time and found out that my only existing kidney was failing. From February 2017, when I was 23 years old, I was undergoing kidney dialysis three – four times a week and was listed for a kidney transplant.”
“This was a very stressful time in my life as I was tied to the dialysis machine, and it was a struggle to leave home for more than three days at a time. In December 2018, I received a phone call offering me a kidney transplant. I’d given this a lot of thought over the previous two years, so it was a relatively quick decision at the time to undergo the surgery. After 6 hours in the operating theatre, I had had a successful transfer, however, 3 months later blood test results were showing that my new kidney was not functioning correctly, and I had to accept further treatment to fight the rejection.”
“Thankfully, this kidney is now stable, and I have routine checks every couple of months knowing that at some point again in my life, I will have to have another kidney transplant.”
Kidney Wales is a cause close to the heart of Penllyn Estate. Dewi Harris, a 29-year-old transplant patient has worked on the estate for over 7 years.
Dewi spoke fondly of Kidney Wales, about the excitement and anticipation in the build up to Lamb Jam 2022, and the importance of raising awareness. “At every stage of my diagnosis, Kidney Wales have been there to offer support and information about the disease and options available to me. The charity offers a whole range of services including information sharing, mental wellbeing, and financial support as well as aiding ongoing scientific studies and developments in kidney disease. I found this service invaluable when I was first diagnosed.”
“Events like Lamb Jam are so important to raise awareness and funds so that a charity like Kidney Wales can continue their invaluable work. Without this charity, many people would really struggle to live life with kidney disease. It’s so important that people are aware of how important it is to donate their organs to save and improve lives’.”
It will all be happening on the lawn at Penllyn Estate, Llwynhelig, Cowbridge. Ticket prices for this event are £8.50 – £15.00 and The Forage team are really looking forward to bringing the community together through the celebration of Welsh produce, talent and fun.
Managing Partner, Tom Homfray, commented “We hope you will join us for a night to remember enjoying great music whilst helping great causes. We wanna lamb it with you!”
Kidney Wales are extremely pleased to have been nominated as one of the beneficiary charities of this exciting event, and cannot wait to see the success of the evening flourish in a few weeks time.
Ross Evans, Managing Director of Kidney Wales spoke about this partnership “Community Events like Lamb Jam, not only bring the community together to raise vital funds for charities like Kidney Wales. They also help raise awareness of conditions which often not spoken about unless you have a personal connection with the illness. We are so thankful to Dewi, and the team at Penllyn Estate for championing our cause and supporting our Kidney Community here in Wales’.”
