Thank you to our dedicated and passionate volunteers. Happy Volunteers Week 2022.
It is a privilege to be able to say that we have so many wonderful volunteers in roles that are making a huge difference to the way awareness of kidney disease and kidney related illnesses is being raised throughout Wales.
From June 1st – 7th Volunteers’ Week 2022 is here, and it is our opportunity to show and share the gratitude we have for all our volunteers. Volunteers Week is an annual week of recognition to acknowledge and thank those who donate their time to the causes they are passionate about.
The past years have been challenging and it has been inspiring to see people from all walks of life around Wales and the UK are volunteering to help people, their communities, and the causes close to their hearts.
This Volunteers Week Kidney Wales are celebrating the contribution our supporters make when they volunteer for our charity. We are grateful to every one of our trustees who volunteer their time and bring their expertise to our board. We are grateful to everyone who has volunteered at an event, with those early starts in unpredictable weather. We are grateful to those dedicated individuals who would travel to our offices and support the staff team on a regular basis.
In 2021 we launched a new Volunteer Ambassador programme. New team member Bethany Williams-Potter joined Kidney Wales to lead on the ambitious project. In September recruitment for our Volunteer Ambassadors began. The programme, aimed to empower our volunteers to use their lived experiences to make a difference and raise awareness of kidney disease, has been a great success with our volunteers to date delivering over 14 talks to business, community groups and schools.
Bethany said about the kidney volunteers she works with “it has been an absolute pleasure to work with such inspiring and skilled volunteers. The response was overwhelming in terms of recruitment, and we are extremely proud to say we have 23 trained ambassadors so far. It’s great to see each individual develop and flourish on their ambassador journey. Each awareness talk is unique to the volunteer but every one of them is inspiring and informative. The positive impact the ambassadors are having is undeniable both in the Kidney Community and Wales wide. Thank you to each and every one of you for making this role and this project so rewarding and for helping Kidney Wales make a difference in education and awareness of kidney disease across Wales. Onwards and upwards!”
What have our volunteers achieved in the last 6months?
Claire Puxley who recently had a talk at Swansea University from volunteer ambassador Helen Jones said “As a parent of a teenager with kidney disease since birth, it really was a brilliant talk. It was also nice to be able to share my own son’s story with kidney disease. I believe I speak on behalf of all attendees when I say it was a very moving account of Helen’s journey, she is an inspiration to the Kidney Wales charity.”
From all of us at Kidney Wales we want to express our immense gratitude to our volunteers and all volunteers this week.
