Celebrating a Year of Impact: How Our Grant Schemes Transformed Lives in 2024–25 - Kidney Wales

As we reflect on the past year, we’re proud to share the tangible difference our grant schemes have made in the lives of individuals and families facing financial hardship, the rising cost of living, and the challenges of caregiving. Thanks to your unwavering support, we’ve been able to provide essential assistance through three key programmes: Finance Grants, Food Vouchers, and Carer Vouchers.

These grants are available to everyone living in Wales. This year, 21% of all grant applications came from patients seen by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, while 73% came from individuals under Cardiff and Vale University Health Board — underscoring the deep need and strong uptake in these communities.

🏠 Finance Grants: Providing Stability in Uncertain Times

In 2024–25, we received 69 applications for our Finance Grants, distributing a total of £23,220. These £500 grants helped people manage utility bills, reduce debt, and purchase essential household items such as:

  • 3 beds
  • 4 sets of bill arrears
  • Carpet
  • 2 cookers
  • 5 fridge/freezers
  • 5 pieces of furniture
  • 3 storage sheds
  • 4 washing machines
  • 3 small kitchen items

These grants offered more than financial support—they restored dignity, comfort, and peace of mind.

🛒 Food Vouchers: Combating Food Insecurity

To support families through the cost-of-living crisis, we distributed £150 food vouchers to 110 applicants, totalling £16,500. These vouchers helped ensure recipients could access healthy, essential food during difficult times.

💆 Carer Vouchers: Supporting Those Who Support Others

Carers often sacrifice their own wellbeing to care for others. To recognise and support them, supported by a grant we received from The Shortbreaks programme administered by Carers trust, we provided 115 Carer Vouchers worth £150 each, totalling £17,250. These grants funded restful and meaningful experiences, including:

  • West Midlands Safari Park
  • Peppa Pig World
  • Spa days
  • Cinema trips
  • Airbnb holidays
  • Meals out
  • Afternoon tea

These moments of rest and enjoyment helped carers recharge and continue their invaluable work.

📊 By the Numbers

In total this year:

  • 294 applications were processed
  • £56,970 in support was distributed
  • Grants reached individuals across Wales, particularly in Betsi Cadwaladr (21%) and Cardiff and Vale (73%) regions

Your continued support has changed lives. We’re deeply grateful and excited to build on this success in the coming year, reaching even more people across Wales with the support they need.

Together, we are building stronger, more supported communities.
