We’re thrilled to share that Kidney Wales has been awarded £19, 967.00 of funding from the National Lottery Community Fund – Awards for All, allowing us to launch a new two-year project: Kidney Community Financial Advice and Support.

This important project will provide tailored financial advice and support to kidney patients and their families across Wales, directly responding to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, which continues to place significant pressure on those living with long-term health conditions.

Importantly, the concept for this project has been shaped by feedback from the kidney community, who have told us that financial pressures remain one of the biggest and most urgent challenges they face.

Aims of the Project

By offering both in-person and online support, this project will:

  • Help individuals understand the financial help available to them
  • Connect people with Kidney Wales and other organisations offering assistance
  • Reduce isolation by creating opportunities for connection and shared support

What the Project Will Deliver

  • Quarterly community drop-in clinics in eight towns and cities across Wales
  • Monthly visits to the children’s kidney unit in Cardiff, providing early-stage support for families of newly diagnosed children
  • Annual online information events for both patients and healthcare professionals
  • Financial information packs for all newly diagnosed patients

Building on the success of our existing grants programme, this initiative ensures more people can access support at the earliest possible stage. It will also enable healthcare professionals to confidently apply for grants and signpost financial help to those who need it.

“This funding will allow us to reach kidney patients and families across Wales with the financial advice and support they urgently need,” said Ross Evans, CEO of Kidney Wales. “The cost-of-living crisis has increased the challenges people with kidney disease already face. Through this project, we can help reduce some of that pressure and ensure no one has to face it alone.”

We’re incredibly grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund and all National Lottery players for making this work possible.

Together, we’re helping to ensure that no one in Wales faces the financial challenges of kidney disease alone.
