For Kellie Morgan, joining #TeamKidneyWales is about far more than crossing a finish line,  it’s about giving back to a charity that has supported her family throughout her son Finley’s kidney journey.

Kellie is a teacher and tutor living in Porthcawl with her three boys, aged 11, 14 and 16 and her partner. When she’s not working, she enjoys running along Rest Bay beach and spending time outdoors with her family and their dog.

Their connection to kidney disease began when Finley was diagnosed with autosomal recessive kidney disease at just six weeks old.

Since then, kidney disease has shaped many aspects of family life. Finley has been unable to take part in contact sports such as rugby and karate, and regular medication, hospital appointments and scans have become part of everyday life. Despite these challenges, Finley has embraced an active lifestyle and is now a keen surfer and member of the Welsh surfing squad.

Kellie says the support of Kidney Wales has helped her family feel less alone.

“Kidney Wales has allowed us to attend events such as ice hockey games, where we have met other kidney families. I also receive regular newsletters with information and updates.”

For many families affected by kidney disease, the support offered by Kidney Wales goes beyond information and services,  it creates connection, understanding and community during some of the most difficult times in life. From family events and emotional support to raising awareness and funding vital projects, Kidney Wales is there for people living with kidney disease every day.

Now, as Finley approaches his 15th year, Kellie wants to give something back.

She has decided to dedicate all of her running races to fundraising for Kidney Wales, while continuing to encourage her boys to live active, healthy outdoor lives.

“Due to my personal connection with the condition, I wanted to join Team Kidney Wales. Training for races also helps motivate me to keep my fitness up.”

When asked what she is most looking forward to, Kellie says it’s the atmosphere of race day and knowing she is making a difference for a cause close to her heart.

Her message to others thinking about joining #TeamKidneyWales is simple: every mile matters.

“I’m proud to run for Kidney Wales, a charity which gives people strength, hope and a community when they need it most. Their work makes a real difference to families every day.”

By joining #TeamKidneyWales, supporters are not only taking on a personal challenge, they are helping ensure families like Kellie’s continue to receive support, connection and hope for the future.
