It was a day to remember for cricket fan and Kidney Wales friend Sahibba Ali after the 15-year-old from Newport was given the honour of leading the England and Australian cricket teams out at this week’s Ashes opener at the SWALEC Stadium.

The eyes of the world saw the brave teenager, who suffers with kidney failure, help England win the toss and get off to a great start against their Ashes foes at Glamorgan Cricket Club’s new stadium. Sahibba is a dialysis patient at the Children’s Kidney Unit in Cardiff, which is supported by Kidney Wales, and last year met cricketing legends Matthew Maynard and Robert Croft when the charity arranged a special visit by the players to the specialist centre.

Sahibba told Kidney Wales she had a fantastic day at the Ashes and that she hoped England would recreate their glory of 2005 and win the series.
