Kidney Wales has been successful in obtaining £26,675.00 funding to deliver a project to provide personalised wellbeing vouchers to unpaid carers of children living with kidney disease up to the value of £150 per household.

Examples of vouchers that could be requested include restaurant vouchers, over night stays, spa days and cinema vouchers. We hope that these vouchers will enable respite, improve physical and mental wellbeing and help build resilience to sustain the caring responsibility.

There funding allows for 120 vouchers to be provided, which will be available until the limit is reached / or until the end of March 2024. No cash will be given, gift cards / vouchers for chosen activities will be provided.

Amser supports unpaid carers living in Wales to access personalised, flexible and creative short breaks. It will provide breaks that improve carer resilience and wellbeing and to support the sustainability of the carer’s caring relationship.

Funded by Welsh Government, Amser, Welsh for ‘time’, is part of the Short Breaks Scheme for unpaid carers and aims to enable 30,000 carers to take a break from caring by 2025.

Carers Trust Wales leads Amser and the Short Breaks Scheme nationally and breaks provided through Amser are delivered locally by organisations with expert knowledge of the carers in their area.

Speaking of the recent funding Managing Director Ross Evans said

“We are over the moon with obtaining a grant from the Amser programme. With over 500 children in Wales living with Kidney Disease, providing a wellbeing break for those caring for the children will have a big impact on the physical and mental wellbeing of the carer and those they are caring for. This is a new focus area for us, and we are really excited to be working with The Children’s Unit in Cardiff and Liverpool to deliver this project supporting unpaid carers in Wales”.

Applications for the personalised wellbeing voucher must be living in Wales and will only be accepted via the healthcare team at your dependants children’s unit (Cardiff / Liverpool). More information on when applications are opening will be shared shortly.
