[:en]The 2015 Cardiff 10K was a special occasion. The 30th Cardiff 10K Race was a record event with over 5,000 runners registered to compete in this landmark road race.

The 2K Fun run was enjoyed by family teams and budding young athletes. The race was started by British Lions and Welsh Rugby legend, Dr Jamie Roberts along with Wales’ Olympic silver medallist, Jamie Baulch.

The 2K race was won by 14 year old, Morgan James with a winning time of 6 mins 32 secs. The first female cross the line was Katie Kearsey with a tie of 8 mins 10 secs.

Everyone who took part crossed the line with smiles on their faces, with many of them raising money for other charities as well as those running to support Kidney Wales Foundation.

The main event of the day was the Cardiff 10K and this year we had a record entry. Lined up alongside the elite athletes were teams from The Royal Navy (back to defend their title) and Kidney Wales supporters Legal & General, Astutis, PWC and General Dynamics. This year we were pleased to see a team from the Transplant Unit in University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. The team was led by example as Transplant Surgeon Elijah Ablorsu crossing the line as the first member of the team.

There were many examples of individuals who entered the race to raise money for Kidney Wales. Including young dialysis patient Hollie Bailey. Despite undergoing dialysis 3 times a week, Hollie was determined to run the 10K with her father Rob. Hollie and Rob ran the 10K to raise money for Kidney Wales. Speaking before the race Rob said: “Two months ago when Hollie said she wanted to run the Cardiff 10k I almost didn’t believe it. She is on dialysis and has a kidney working at only 3% functionality – but she is definitely a fighter!

“Being unwell, there are so many things that she cannot do, but I am really looking forward to seeing her face when she completes the Cardiff 10k – the sense of achievement and happiness will be hard to beat!

Hollie completed the 10K alongside her proud Dad, Rob.

The Cardiff 10K, always been a fast and flat course, is enjoyed by the elite athletes and this year’s race was won by John Beattie in 29 min 12 sec. The first woman across the line was a hard fought thing with Rachel Felton coming across the line in 33 mins 27 sec.

The Royal Navy Team, the defending champions, took home the Team Challenge Trophy winning ahead of 137 Corporate and Community Teams entered into this year’s Team Challenge.[:]
