Chloe’s Patient Journey
Being diagnosed with a chronic illness at a young age feels isolating and overwhelming. It challenges my sense of normalcy yet fosters resilience and a deeper understanding of health and empathy.
A chronic illness diagnosis can evoke a mix of fear, uncertainty, and resilience. It prompts a deep reflection on life priorities and ignites a determination to advocate for my health.
In 2022 I was suddenly taken unwell with suspected meningitis and a low kidney function. many tests, biopsies and consultant reviews later I was diagnosed with vasculitis.
A vasculitis diagnosis feels daunting and overwhelming. It brings uncertainty about health and the future yet fosters resilience and a determination to understand my condition and advocate for my care.
Since my diagnosis I have tried several treatments in the form of immunotherapy which have resulted in many prolonged hospital stays and multiple intensive care admissions.
In December 2024 I started another type of immunotherapy in the hope that eventually I will be in a state of remission. Regardless of all the setbacks this has caused me and the uncertainty that comes with it. I am still thankful that I got my diagnosis so quick and the treatment and support I have received from the Liz Baker department and all the other consultants across Swansea Bay along the way have been absolutely incredible.
