Football legend Nathan Blake was given a run for his money by local schoolchildren at the official launch of this year’s HSBC Cardiff 10K and 2K Run at the Millennium Stadium.
The former formidable Cardiff City and Wales striker is one of the official ambassadors of this year’s event on Sunday, September 6 in aid of the Kidney Wales Foundation, and joined children from Howell’s School and Cathedral School in Llandaff in a dash for the finish-line to mark the official race countdown.
Nathan said: I decided I wanted to get involved in this year’s event after visiting the Children’s Kidney Unit with Kidney Wales earlier this year. The HSBC Cardiff 10K and 2K Run is a great way for people to get fit, while at the same time helping raise thousands of pounds for children and adults affected by kidney failure.
It really is an event to suit everyone. The 2K Run is great for families and suits all ages. If you want something more challenging, the 10K is a perfect distance for any running ability and you don’t have to break world records – you’ll be a champion just for pulling on your trainers and giving it a go.
More than 35,000 people have entered the HSBC Cardiff 10K and 2K Run since the event was first staged more than 20-years-ago, helping cement its place as one of the country’s biggest and longest standing 10K races.
This year is no exception with a record-breaking 4,000 runners expected to take part along an exciting new city centre course, either raising money for charity or just for fun.
Over the years the HSBC Cardiff 10K has attracted a world-class line-up of stars, as well as runners from across the globe including Kenya’s World Championship bronze medallist Ernest Kimeli who holds the race record of 28min 32secs.
Roy J Thomas, Chairman of the Event, said: The HSBC Cardiff 10K and 2K Run has been a great success over the years and it will continue to help raise vital, life-saving funds to support the thousands of families across Wales affected by kidney disease.
