Donate Wales has today unveiled its latest celebrity backer, Frosty the Snowman.
Frosty said:
"In this cold weather I know lots of people are staying home to be safe and sound. Why not use this time to save a life and join the organ donor register. I’m not sure how long I’ll be around but I’m happy to donate all I have to help others. Unfortunately, I can’t donate organs that will help the 490 people in Wales who are waiting. All I have is my humble carrot."
Every 11 days a person in Wales dies waiting for an organ transplant.
Statistics recently released by the Kidney Wales Foundation show that whilst 71% of welsh adults would be willing to donate their organs after death, just 28% are on the organ donor register.
Director of Communications and Events at the Kidney Wales Foundation Alison Goldsworthy said:
"We are delighted that Frosty has joined our campaign. Over New Year we’ve seen people pledge their support as a resolution. We hope that our latest celebrity backer will persuade more to join them, there are still not enough people on the register. We know many more people want to donate their organs than are on the register, they want end the wait for people. That’s why this new year we are asking people to join by visiting www.donatewales.org calling 0300 123 23 23 or texting SAVE to 84118"
