Important Update: Beacon CRM Cyber Security Incident
At Kidney Wales, protecting the personal information of our supporters, beneficiaries and partners is extremely important to us. It has come to our attention that Beacon CRM, the third-party customer relationship management (CRM) system used by Kidney Wales, has experienced a cyber security incident this week.
We have been in constant communication with Beacon around this and they have informed us that its systems were accessed by an unauthorised party using compromised credentials. The incident remains under investigation, and Beacon is currently working at pace to establish the full extent of what has occurred.
Beacon currently believes that data backups held on behalf of Kidney Wales may have been compromised and accessed. This means that some personal information relating to our supporters and beneficiaries may have been included within the affected data.
Importantly, no financial or payment information has been compromised. The information potentially affected relates to personal details that individuals may have shared with Kidney Wales.
We will remain in close communication with Beacon while their investigation continues. Beacon have already confirmed they have implemented immediate measures to secure all systems and prevent any further unauthorised access. We have also notified the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) of the incident.
We recommend that all supporters and beneficiaries remain vigilant and exercise caution with any unexpected emails, text messages or phone calls. Please take extra care before clicking on links or opening attachments, particularly if a communication appears unusual or unexpected.
Beacon has a strong commitment to information security and data protection and holds the UK’s highest level of recognised cyber security certification and is trusted by more than 1,500 charities across the UK. This incident has affected a large number of organisations that use the Beacon platform.
Kidney Wales understands that this news may be concerning, however please be assured we remain committed to keeping everyone updated on this situation and will publish further updates on this page as soon as more information becomes available.
Thank you for your continued understanding and support.
