Kidney Wales celebrates receiving a ‘People and Places’ grant from the National Lottery to continue supporting our kidney community in Wales.

Kidney Wales is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded £150,009.00 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.

National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to prosper and thrive. During the pandemic, in 2020 alone, The National Lottery Community Fund distributed almost £1 billion to charities and community organisations across the UK.

This grant awarded to Kidney Wales will provide funding over a 4-year period, allowing us to recruit a Volunteering & Community Engagement Officer to support the organisation in a number of areas. They will deliver four information days per year, with a variety of speakers providing key guidance for patients living with all stages of chronic kidney disease [CKD].

“Thank you to all the National Lottery Players”

They will also further develop the incredible work that has already begun with our Kidney Wales ambassador programme.  Recruiting, training & managing those touched by kidney disease who wish to become a volunteer ambassador by sharing their personal story.  Alongside this, they will oversee an outreach programme to schools, businesses, voluntary organisations, health services and community groups providing talks delivered by ambassadors that reflect issues faced by the kidney community as well as the importance of kidney health for everyone.

John Rose, Wales Director at The National Lottery Community Fund, celebrated the organisation saying:  “We are proud to support grassroots groups and charities doing amazing things, like Kidney Wales. The Fund is dedicated to supporting projects that help communities to prosper and thrive. National Lottery players raise over £30 million each week for good causes”

Ross Evans, our Managing Director at Kidney Wales, says: “We’re delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund has recognised the importance of educating and awareness for our kidney community and the general public in this way. Now, thanks to National Lottery players we will be able to improve the wellbeing and journey of those affected by kidney disease by providing regular guidance and support as well as increasing community engagement whilst building awareness of kidney health and kidney disease through our wonderful volunteer ambassadors.  We are so grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund for this opportunity and can’t wait to get started. “

About The National Lottery Community Fund

During the pandemic, in 2020 alone, The National Lottery Community Fund distributed almost £1 billion to charities and community organisations across the UK.

We are the largest funder of community activity in the UK – we support people and communities to prosper and thrive.

We’re proud to award money raised by National Lottery players to communities across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and to work closely with Government to distribute vital grants and funding from key Government programmes and initiatives.

Our funding has a positive impact and makes a difference to people’s lives. We support projects focussed on things that matter, including economic prosperity, employment, young people, mental health, loneliness and helping the UK reach NET Zero by 2050.

Thanks to the support of National Lottery players, our funding is open to everyone. We’re privileged to be able to work with the smallest of local groups right up to UK-wide charities, enabling people and communities to bring their ambitions to life.

National Lottery players raise over £30 million each week for good causes throughout the UK. Since The National Lottery began in 1994, £43 billion has been raised for good causes. National Lottery funding has been used to support over 635,000 projects – 255 projects per postcode area.
