Kidney Wales: Celebrating Remarkable Achievements in 2023 & 2024
Financial Support for the Kidney Community
In 2023 and 2024, Kidney Wales has been at the forefront of providing crucial financial assistance to kidney patients across all of Wales. We have spent an impressive £211,866 directly on supporting the kidney community across Wales. This funding has been pivotal in helping patients manage the financial burdens that can be associated with kidney disease, ensuring they receive the care and support they need.
Efficient Use of Donations
Kidney Wales prides itself on its transparency and efficient use of donations. For every pound raised, 60p was spent directly on the kidney community. This demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to maximizing the impact of every donation, ensuring that funds are used effectively to benefit those in need, where they need it.
Direct Support to Patients
Over the past two years, Kidney Wales has provided direct financial support to 268 patients. This support has been instrumental in helping patients cover costs related to treatment, transportation, and other essential needs, significantly improving their quality of life. In support of this we work closely with other organisations and have made 12 referrals to these organisations ensuring patients get the support they need from the best source.
Ambassadors Raising Awareness
Organisationally we have 11 Kidney Wales Ambassadors who are actively involved in raising awareness and delivering presentations through their lived experiences. These ambassadors play a crucial role in educating the public about kidney disease, sharing personal stories, and advocating for better support and resources for kidney patients.
Launch of New Website
Kidney Wales has also made strides in enhancing its online presence. The launch of a new website in the summer of 2024, has made it easier for individuals to access information, resources, and support. Our user-friendly website provides valuable insights into kidney health, ways to get involved, and how to seek assistance from Kidney Wales.
Addressing the Cost of Living Crisis through our “Let’s Talk” Sessions”
In response to the ongoing cost of living crisis, we took proactive steps to support kidney patients who are particularly vulnerable to financial challenges. The organisation has successfully delivered five “Let’s Talk” sessions specifically focused on financial support and addressing the cost of living crisis. These sessions have provided a vital platform for kidney patients to discuss their financial concerns, share experiences, and receive practical advice.
My Kidney Book
Another significant achievement is the £2,700 funding and launch of the new ‘My New Kidney Book’. This resource is designed to provide assistance to those children in Wales who are navigating the complexities that are involved in the journey to kidney transplantation.
Kidney Wales Re-Launches the Cardiff 10K with Run 4 Wales: A Milestone Achievement
Kidney Wales proudly re-launched the Cardiff 10K in collaboration with Run 4 Wales, marking a significant milestone in our fundraising and community engagement efforts. The first time back since 2019, the event saw an impressive turnout, with 133 runners representing Kidney Wales. The Cardiff 10K not only showcased the resilience and determination of our runners but also highlighted the strength of the community coming together for a common cause. The funds raised from this event will directly support our ongoing initiatives to improve the lives of kidney patients across Wales.
