NHS Blood & Transplant and British Transplantation Society latest vaccine information for transplant patients and those on the transplant list.
On June 30th 2021 a NHS Blood & Transplant and British Transplantation Society joint statement was released supporting the recommendation to have the Covid-19 vaccine and to confirm that those who have had both doses of their vaccination are at a reduced risk of contracting coronavirus.
The NHS recommends that vaccination is the best protection for everyone from severe disease, risk of hospitalisation and death due to COVID-19.
“Of approximately 39,000 transplant recipients who had received both vaccine doses, less
than 1% (76) contracted COVID-19 two weeks or more after second vaccine dose. Of these
8% (6) died within 28 days of a positive COVID-19 test.”
We are pleased to see these positive statistics on behalf of our community. It is reassuring to see that of those who have had both doses of their vaccine, a very small percentage of patients contracted the virus.
“Of approximately 3100 patients on the transplant waiting list who received both vaccine doses, less than 1% (5) contracted COVID-19 two weeks or more after the second vaccine dose and none died within 28 days of the positive test.”
Another positive outcome for those who are also on the transplant waiting list. Confirming that accepting both doses of the vaccine is the best way at this time to offer the maximum protection against contracting or dying from COVID-19.
Please remember to speak to your medical team if you have any questions or concerns as they know you and your health beat.
