On Sunday, April 27th the Kidney Wales Foundation will hold its annual Walks for Life in support of patients and families affected by kidney disease and those waiting for a transplant across Wales.
In towns and villages all over the country, fundraisers will be tying up their laces and putting on their distinctive Walk for Life T Shirts to support the charity.
Money raised provides life saving equipment for renal units across Wales; it goes towards employing key staff at the Kidney Wales Children’s Centre as well as funding ground-breaking research to tackle the causes of Kidney disease and renal failure.
With the help of Welsh legend, Max Boyce MBE as a Walk for Life Ambassador, the charity is hoping that the 2014 event will be bigger and better than ever and thanks the fundraising champions to take on the task of organising walks in their local communities.
Max Boyce said:
“As a Patron of Kidney Wales, I am delighted to see communities coming together with Walks across Wales from North to South.”
Roy J Thomas, of Kidney Wales Foundation said: “We are again blessed with Communities and Town and Community Councils supporting us this year.”
He added: “We have great fundraisers across Wales who always show fantastic support for the charity. Over the past few years, walks in Porthcawl, Llanfairfechan, Halkyn, Aberavon and Machynlleth have raised thousands of pounds, which we as a charity have been able to invest in equipment, research, treatment and support for kidney patients and their families across Wales.
We would like to thank those new walks that have joined us this year in Bala, Llantwit Major, Hay-on-Wye and Tyn-y-Capel, Wrexham.
I have met some incredible individuals through my work with Kidney Wales. Life on dialysis is extremely difficult and many people spend years waiting for a life saving transplant, with others, sadly, never getting the chance to be put forward for one. A new dialysis unit was opened in Merthyr Tydfil this month with sate of the art facilities. Through fundraising events such as the Walk for Life, Kidney Wales can help to ease the burden of kidney failure and renal disease for patients and their families and we are very thankful for the support we receive.”
